Auditions for Toto!

Kath, David and all the dogs went to Stoneleigh for the "Auditions For Toto" which is running alongside the BBC TV Programme, "Looking for Dorothy" finding the leading lady to play in the Theatre Production of The Wizard of Oz. "Over The Rainbow"

The Prize for Toto was to appear in a one off Gala Event. So nothing to loose - and nothing which would exert our dogs, we arrived at The Kennel Club Building around 8:30 am to start queuing. It was a lovely sunny day - but very cold wind - but luckily there weren't as many people with dogs as anticipated.

There was no stipulation on Breed of size of dog - so as you can see there was a wide variety all ready to audition.

The massive Kennel Club Building was the perfect venue. Lots of light airy space and many more seats than people. Refreshments were on sale and of course plenty of grass for our canine partners to exercise on.
A familiar face amongst the crowd :-) Jenny Deakin - she is part of the HTM Team GB.

The auditions started on time and I think this was the very first dog chosen from the first group of ten. We couldn't see what was expected of the dogs or handlers - we had to wait in line.

So Amber and Spice were with me walking around the ring as directed by the marshall. Just steady walking - on lead. We all behaved well.

The judges didn't seem to notice us :-(
But then Sarah Fisher came across to admire Spices ears!!! She was amazed that Spice was 8 yrs old and then she asked if we had ever won anything before - well I did tell her Spice had won the Freestyle and International at Crufts 2008.

Well - that was the end of our audition :-( .We weren't even asked to perform our favourite "trick". Although Spice looked keen to please.

Alas, we weren't chosen - but this is the dog from our group that went forward to the next "heat". A cross Mastiff/American Bull Terrier.

The other judges were Gerry Cott and Jodie Prenger although she wasn't in the ring when we did our walk around.

Good Luck to those chosen - hope you and your dogs enjoy their "special" time.

Sounds like a good day out even though the 'judges' couldn't see that Spice was born to be Toto!
