Teaching in Norway

Kath and Karen were invited to train in Norway in 2011 - and because of their busy schedule - the visit was delayed until 2012
The venue for the weekend - a fabulous indoor riding school called Grorud Gard
Their rooms for the three days were on the first floor of the Visitors House

And this was the owner's house -
belonging to Hans Petter and Annie
who purchased the business in August 2011
Situated at the end of a long lane in the centre of an area of heavy forest
The stabling and Education Room.
All three of the main properties - very impressive and what beautiful warm sunshine

Anja collected Karen & Kath from the venue on the Thursday morning
for a walk round the beach and lunch
Yes, this is sea water!
A lovely view across the sea to the town where we had left the car
The Law of the Land
All dogs to be kept on lead -
from the 15th April through the summer to 15th September
The same walk to them through a Viking burial site
Fabulous scenery on a very warm day
Time for a sit down and lunch.
The following day, Kath and Karen were presenting a Judges Seminar
to the 8 people currently qualified to judge Freestyle in Norway.
The seminar covered all the relative Freestyle and HTM Rules
plus a practical session judging videos.
The Group said they had learnt a lot of good advice from Karen and Kath
They left that evening, with heads buzzing from the information given during the day but now it was time for a meal out in the local town.  Food is terrifically expensive in Norway!
Saturday - and time to get the attendees warmed up
as the temperature had dropped overnight and the wind very cruel!
Kath & Karen took advantage of using the Education Rooms which were warm!
Training then moved into the huge indoor riding school
During the Choreography training - everyone was kept very busy - and warm!
Great to see everyone joining in with plenty of space
A good mix of breeds too: Dalmatian, Pumi, Flat Coat Retriever, Schnauzer, King Charles Spaniel, Beagle, Lhasa Apso, Jack Russell, Shih Tzu, Labrador, Standard Poodle, Lagotto Romagnolo, Smooth Collie, Australian Shepherd, Chinese Crested Powder Puff,Golden Retriever, Belgian Shepherds and Collies too!
Working with props
Team work - Norway have a class for over 6 legs!!!
Starting and Finish Poses
Back to the Education Centre for a Lasagne Evening.
HP - the Venue owner with his 6 month old JR - the rat catcher!
Monday - time to get to the airport - but first a stop for lunch
Restaurants along the "sea front"
Karen chose the Home Made Beefburger and Kath chose the Fish Soup.
For once - the duo arrived in Amsterdam Airport
with a little time to spare before their next flight home
The statue is called "The Black Snowman"
Thank you to Anja for arranging this trip - Karen and Kath thoroughly enjoyed passing on their experience to you all.

A Day Out at Cadbury World

Everyone deserves a day out and for the Top Lodge Trio - they are no exception to this rule.
They sampled chocolate and took part in everything that was on offer!
This was a shivering chocolate finger - rather naughty!!!
Phil Collins?   Nah -  The gorilla on the a Cadbury Advert.
 Watch it here
Superb sunny day - and the trio had just finished the official tour -
but now they found the Staff Shop!!!!  YUMMY!!

Karen's Birthday at Crufts

Friday 9th March was the day Karen competed in the Heelwork To Music Final at Crufts and it was also her birthday - making it a very special event for her.

Lesley and Kath had ordered a cake especially for the day to share with everyone.
Lots of the International handlers and supporters came along to share the celebrations.
Happy Birthday was sung to her in four different languages - French, Dutch, Swiss and English.
Not sure who was the loudest!!!

But the French were the most tuneful!
It looks quite sickly - but it was actually very, very nice with enough left to take to the restaurant that night.
HAPPY "CRUFTS" BIRTHDAY Karen.

Crufts 2012 - and all Top Lodge were involved in the competitions. Kath had been invited to judge all three days of competition - the Freestyle (Thursday) the Heelwork To Music (Friday) the International Freestyle (Saturday) and the Young Kennel Club Classes (Saturday afternoon)

It seemed a long walk to reach the judge's tables in the Main Arena!
Lesley and Angus competed in the Freestyle Competition to their music "Elegance" from Hello Dolly.
A great routine which gave Lesley and Angus third place!!!   Well done both of you.
All ten competitors with their lovely dogs, plus the judges for a photograph of a day to remember
Karen with Fly competed in the Heelwork To Music Competition on Friday, performing to "Singing In The Rain" they completed a superb routine with bejewelled umbrella and jacket - all hand done!
Well done Karen and Fly gaining 4th place
What a great line up - all ten competitors with dogs - and a couple of judges!
Crystal engraved trophies presented to the judges in appreciation of their hard work.
The Winner of the International Freestyle Competition Thierry Thomas and Ubac from France
At the benches for a well earned rest - Lesley with Angus and Hamish
The benches are a nice quiet area for both dogs and handlers.  Decorated with the Good Luck cards from family, friends and fellow competitors
Karen met with Lada from The Czech Republic from her visit there with Kath a few years ago
Karen at the benches with Fly and Erin snuggled in their cages.  Lots of cards - it was Karen's birthday on the Friday so extra celebt-rations for her.

Another Crufts over - and the year starts all over again - looking for new music for new routines.

Thanks to everyone for supporting Top Lodge - especially Derbyshire County Cricket Club for allowing them to use the indoor facilities.

Nice Footwork!!

The final choice - well OK he's spoilt as he couldn't choose between the three!!
